Mikhal Gongora is a criminal defense attorney in Texas, where she has practiced law since her graduation from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2002.

With over two decades of legal practice under her belt, Mikhal's career is marked by a diverse array of experiences. She served as an Assistant District Attorney in both Cameron and Harris Counties for eight years, where she honed her skills in prosecution. For the other fourteen years, she has maintained a dual focus on civil plaintiff and criminal defense work. Her criminal courtroom experiences cover a broad array of cases including but not limited to charges of fraud, human trafficking, crimes against children, drug and gun crimes, assaults, and murders. Ms. Gongora has the experience, confidence, and ability to advocate fiercely for her client’s needs.

Ms. Gongora is of Mexican-Cuban decent, and grew up in the Gentilly area of New Orleans. She grew up in the legal profession, first as a legal receptionist and file clerk in high school. Ms. Gongora is the first generation of her family to go to college and the first to go to law school. During law school, Ms. Gongora participated in the Loyola Law Clinic in their criminal law division. It was during law clinic where she first defended a mother who was criminally charged for the tragic death of her children in a house fire while she was away. It was then that Ms. Gongora knew that speaking up for those who cannot would be the focus her career.

Her dedication to justice and community service extends beyond the courtroom, as evidenced by her long-standing volunteer work with the Triumph Over Kid Cancer Foundation, an initiative launched by her cousins in 2010.

By choosing Gongora & Schultz, PLLC, clients gain more than legal representation; they find a staunch advocate ready to champion their rights.
